For tomorrow's class we will start a new topic, which is free particle propagation and scattering.
This involves non-local states.
So far we have been dealing only with bound states, so this will be a change from what we have been covering and a new topic. For free particles (V=0), the energy eigenstates tend to be of the form:
\(\psi(x) = e^{ikx}\).
The energy vs k relationship takes the form:
\(E_k = \hbar^2 k^2/(2m)\)
These states are also momentum eigenstates with momentum eigenvalue of \(\hbar k\).
Anyway we will explore and learn more about these tomorrow.
