For tomorrow's class we will start a new topic, which is free particle propagation and scattering.
This involves non-local states.
So far we have been dealing only with bound states, so this will be a change from what we have been covering and a new topic. For free particles (V=0), the energy eigenstates tend to be of the form:
ψ(x)=eikx.
The energy vs k relationship takes the form:
Ek=ℏ2k2/(2m)
These states are also momentum eigenstates with momentum eigenvalue of ℏk.
Anyway we will explore and learn more about these tomorrow.
